Loss of a residence permit after separation, divorce or the death of a partner
In the event of separation, divorce or the death of a partner, you may lose your right of residence in Switzerland. However, a residence permit can be retained under certain conditions even after separation, divorce or the death of a partner.
If you have obtained your residence permit as part of a family reunion and you separate or divorce from the person who is the reason for your residence permit in Switzerland or this person dies, you must report this to the cantonal migration authorities.
If you have a residence permit (B permit), you may stay under certain conditions:
EU/EFTA nationals
You can apply for a residence permit in your name if you are gainfully employed or have sufficient financial means to support yourself.
Third-country nationals
You can have your residence permit extended if:
