Education Law Switzerland
Primary Education: In Switzerland, the cantons are responsible for the school system (Art. 62 of the Federal Constitution). The cantons must provide sufficient primary education, which is open to all children. At public schools, education is free of charge and it is compulsory. The earliest age of attendance is six years.
Higher Education Law in Switzerland: The Swiss Confederation, in conjunction with the cantons, ensures the coordination, quality and competitiveness of the higher education sector throughout Switzerland.
Universities and higher institutions of learning as defined by this federal law are:
a. the universities: the cantonal universities and the Federal Institutes of Technology (ETH);   b. the universities of applied sciences and the universities of teacher education.
